Timeless or Trendy?

Design trends come and go, but some elements of design have long-lasting appeal. At Prince George Street Design, we believe beautiful spaces should feel authentic and timeless rather than trendy.  Or trending. Or on-trend!  Staying current with things like color and details is easy once you have the foundations in place. But buy the wrong foundation pieces and you will be starting a journey on a hamster wheel trying to stay current.  As anyone on social media knows, things change quickly. Buy what is trendy today and you will be buying again in a very short span of time.   Both of these are bad for your wallet and bad for the environment.  Some things will always stand the test of time.  Have fun with the things you can change easily. But pick investment pieces with a long-term view.

1. Warm Neutrals

Bright white interiors are giving way to warmer shades like cream, taupe, sand, and beige. These colors will always create inviting spaces that feel calm and sophisticated. For the most part, say goodbye to all gray interiors. 

2, Natural Materials 

Wood, stone, linen, and woven textures continue to be long lasting staples in good design.  Incorporating natural materials adds authenticity and depth while creating a connection to the outdoors. 

3. Layering Light

Lighting is one of the most important elements in a home (and for a Zoom call!). Combining lamps, chandeliers, sconces, and accent lighting creates warmth and enhances the overall atmosphere of a space. Do not rely on overhead lighting as your main lighting source.  And dimmers are a girls best friend!

4. Curated Spaces

Instead of filling rooms with matched sets of furniture, embracing collected, curate pieces from different sources to make a room personal and unique. Vintage finds, family heirlooms, pieces from various periods and styles, combined with meaningful artwork help tell a story about you. 

5. Comfortable Elegance

Today, homes prioritize comfort and cozy vibes while adding sophistication through quality material, thoughtful details and accents, and timeless furnishings.
